The Wailing Wall
The Western Wall also known as the Wailing Wall, is a place of great spiritual significance, especially in the Jewish religion. People believe it is the holiest place, and place closest to God, which is why they pray there. The Wall is the last remaining structure from the town in Jerusalem. The Wall was part of a temple, which had been destroyed twice in it's lifetime, including the war of 70CE, and after that, was never re-built. Only the western wall was left.
The tradition of praying at this Wall started in 300BC. Rabbis claimed that God's presence was extremely strong near the sacred structure. Jews from all over the world make pilgrimages to the Wall and pray, write letters and prayer and slip them into the crack in the Wall. It is called The Wailing Wall, because people pray and cry over the loss of the temple.
